Plant Chair

Written by admin on April 10, 2010 – 6:43 pm -

Chairs! So much design and thought goes into the design of new chairs! Really you would think we have enough of them to not warrant so much attention. But no designers continue to bring new ideas and thoughts to the humble chair every day.

This one recently caught my eye – not so much the shape but the structure. It looks like a tree or plant which is exactly what the designers had in mind (lucky huh).

The designers, French brothers Ronan and Erwan Bouroullec have won countless awards for their designs in recent years. And these stackable, indoor-outdoor vegetal chairs will no doubt be no exception.

The plant-like look is made of a dyed polyamide dyed and pushes technology to the limit. Whilst it is available in 6 different colors, I must say I’m quite partial to this green one – looks like a tree to me.

Hanging Around

Written by admin on April 4, 2010 – 7:23 pm -

Three distinct ways to ‘hang’ something in your home – these images certainly provide a new take on the same old boring hangings that we usually see.

Try these in your home and see what impact you can make.

Just in case you are wondering – the image above is of ceramic pots hung above the old fireplace.

Poem Cup

Written by admin on March 30, 2010 – 6:01 pm -

Katarina Häll’s graduation project is a comment on a world spinning faster and faster. The Poem cup offers a moment of reflection, a meditative break in the rush of everyday life.

What a cute design! Very quirky and fun.

But as I consider that the designer suggest that this is for a “meditative break in the rush of everyday life” – it makes me feel even more rushed.

Instead of conjuring up thoughts of relaxing and unwinding – it makes me realize what a crazy life it is if we can’t even drink a cup of tea without thinking that we need to ‘note’ something. Just looking at it makes me squirm.

Sorry whilst I love the quirkiness of the design I shan’t be getting one.

What do you think?

Over The Sink

Written by admin on March 1, 2010 – 5:10 pm -

This island bamboo cutting board sits over the sink area giving you extra bench space.

The cool thing about this is the built in flexible colander that fits over the sink allowing you to rinse, drain and chop. Plus did I mention that the colander is removable thus making it easy to transport ingredients between sink and stove.

Barcodes Take A Life Of Their Own

Written by admin on February 23, 2010 – 4:05 pm -

Whilst not exactly about the home, these barcodes were such an interesting design idea that we just felt we had to share.

A vanity barcode is a product barcode that’s been turned into a decorative design. And yet is still scans just like a regular boring barcode.

They can be used as powerful marketing tool that can transform a boring piece of packaging into a terrific brand asset.

With many shops now having ‘do it yourself’ checkout many consumers now see the barcode much more often – the ideal time for some brand recognition.

Art Fun Color

Written by admin on February 20, 2010 – 8:42 pm -

I just love the colors and shapes incorporated into this image – whilst not strictly home decor, I’m sure it will provide someone with the inspiration for a “wild room”.

Wings for your Table

Written by admin on February 16, 2010 – 5:56 pm -

The Wing collection by Sara Szyber is a sleek design on the old ‘folding table’.

It’s big enough to cater for a dinner party of 6 and when that is done it converts into a convenient sideboard. So it is useful whether its folded out or not.

At $695 it might not be in everyone’s budget but it certainly is a classy looking unit. Available in white or black it’s designed with the contemporary home in mind.
