Summer is quickly approaching and you are fervently wishing to spend at least a day or two in the tropics. The only thing is that you might not have the budget for the getaway and you’re wondering if there could be any better alternative or if you can bring it inside your home instead. The good news is that, there is something you can do to achieve the tropical look and you can do that in your own personal space—your bedroom.

You can start with the colors of your walls that impersonates the tropical ambiance. You can either use wallpaper or coat your walls with colors from a variety of choices, from sandy brown, to pale blue, to green, or even orange.

Additionally, you can use furniture made up of native dark wood or rattan to further bring the tropics to your bedroom. Bamboo rugs for your flooring are also great accessories that will give you the tropical look, however, if bamboo-made items are not appealing to you, there are rugs of solid colors that would coordinate well with the theme you are trying to convey.

Bringing the tropics to your home does not have to cost you a full year’s paycheck and with a few simple steps, you can enjoy an all-year-round tropical bedroom.

Written by mystyle on August 8, 2010 – 11:25 am -

Times are hard and as much as possible we want to spend within our budget and still get the best result or service we can get. This holds true with home decorating, too. When decorating a baby’s room we want nothing but the best, however, sometimes our budget just wouldn’t allow us to buy new items. But resorting to frugal budget decorating does not have to mean getting the cheap look for our home.

Your best weapons are creativity and patience. Do not miss the chance of getting good pieces by visiting second-hand stores or signing up for online shopping newsletters to be the first to know when they have big sale week. Here you can get decors like area rugs for as low as $30 or sets of pillowcases for less than $20 of the original selling price.

Hand me down items are also good pieces you can use to decorate your home. Other people just love to redo the look of their interiors that buying new stuff is not a major concern to them. Chances are they end of giving away those other useful things they tend to replace. Your friends and relatives are usually good sources of these things.

And finally, rely on your creative juices, or you can browse  magazines or books about home decorating to get ideas on how you can arrange your acquired assets to give your home the sassy look.

Bring Back the Past to Your Home

Written by mystyle on August 8, 2010 – 10:53 am -

The 80s had been my year. I grew up listening to the upbeat music of Madonna and the melodious voices of Menudo, and even up to this period, I can still vividly remember the outstanding colors and feel of the era. Likewise, the striking ambiance of the homes back then is still fresh in my mind.

If you are designing your home or any bedroom using the 80s style, the first thing to keep in mind is to use the right color—whether it’s for the walls or the furniture you’re going to use. The most common colors to show off when decorating with the 80’s style are salmon and light blue. However, pink, green, blue and orange are also the “in” thing, denoting the 80s pop culture.

When it comes to decorating living rooms, instead of using any framed art for walls, you can hang vintage posters of 80’s music icons or movie posters of Top Gun, E.T. or Back to the Future series.

Your kitchen is also a good place to show patches of 80s décor by using granite tiles for your countertops, area rugs for your flooring, varnished cabinets, and recessed lighting which you can either do yourself or have someone else do it for you.

Achieving Balance In Your Kitchen

Written by mystyle on August 5, 2010 – 8:37 pm -

If you are new to home decorating, you will probably find out that the hardest, yet critical, thing to consider is how to achieve a balanced look in your room spaces. It becomes even more difficult if it involves a kitchen makeover.

One thing to keep in mind is to make sure that nothing in your kitchen will stand out from the rest, that is: from the wall paint colors, to the utensils, to the chairs and table, etc. Now, you would ask, how can that be possible at all? It’s certainly going to help if you plan ahead and research on the theme you want to use in your kitchen. Once this has been decided upon, you can easily pick the decor that will work together for your kitchen.

Color will play a major role in creating the balanced look for your kitchen, because there’s a large portion of the space that going to adapt the hues of your choice. So be careful not to pick the loud colors of neon green or bright orange, otherwise, they are the first things that your guests will notice as soon as they step into the room.

Home Accessories For Room Renovation

Written by mystyle on August 5, 2010 – 7:22 pm -

Whether you are doing some minor renovation to your bedroom or have just moved in to a new bare apartment, chances are, you will be needing some useful home accessories that will make you achieve your desired theme or look.

Of course, there are plenty of things you can get. But the question is: Are they all going to work well when put together in your home?

Consider the extent of the renovation you’re doing. Is it just the bedroom? The living room, or perhaps, just the outdoor spaces? Once you know which ones you want to make some changes to first, decide on the look you want to create.

If you want to have that bright ambiance in your living room, choose wall paints in lighter hues. They do not only brighten the room, but also create an extended illusion of the entire space. Also, go for minimalist decors. Say, add a classy looking chaise lounge in solid color of white or pale blue or beige. Make sure the cushion is soft and smooth, too, to give a comfy feeling.

Other home decorating accessories that should top your list are area rugs. Nowadays, area rugs are created in various styles, shapes, designs, and textures to match the theme of your home. They also come in very affordable and reasonable prices, therefore, allowing homeowners to choose the designs that would work best for them.

And finally, do not leave your walls bare. Invest on great wall hanging decors or framed paintings that will enhance the look of your living room. Take the time to visit your nearest thrift shops or antique-selling stores because they can give you items that are hard to find and yet in budget-friendly rates.

Paint Your Living Room With The Right Color

Written by mystyle on August 5, 2010 – 7:02 pm -

Sometimes when you’re doing a living room makeover, the only major thing you’d have to consider really, is picking the right paint color to achieve the exact look you want to get. Paint colors do make a lot of difference that no small ornaments or wall decors can do. Once you have selected the right living room paint color everything else follows.

One of the major booboos in living room decorating is refusing to try bold colors, and instead going the safer way of painting the walls using pastel shades. This is fine, except that in the long run it can become boring or sometimes pretty useless if you use them over and over as if no major changes happen. Bold colors can define any room, too, given that they are used the right way.

If you have a huge living room, it’s fine to experiment with darker shades as they can help create a smaller view of the space. On the other hand, if you have a smaller living room, you may consider lighter paint colors to achieve a bigger look of the room.

Meanwhile, do keep in mind that your living room is not for yourself only. It’s the place in your home where you invite friends and family members to socialize and catch up on each other’s lives. So make sure that the place is comfy and brings out homey ambiance. With the right paint color, it’s easier to pick the smaller decors that will go make your guests feel welcome in the place.

How to Decorate Your Home Bar

Written by mystyle on August 4, 2010 – 10:35 pm -

How you decorate your bar depends on so many things. First you need to consider where you want to have the bar in your home? The living room and kitchen are usually the most common areas where a bar is located. For some homeowners who have bigger homes and spaces, they have a separate bar near the living room, and sometimes another bar in their bedroom.

Once you have considered the best place where you feel a bar will be aptly situated, next thing to consider is the size of the bar. How big do you want your bar to be? Again, if floor area of the house is not a problem, then it goes without saying that you can have quite a spacious bar, too, if not a separate room that will house a full bar for socializing with your friends.

These two basic questions play as the foundation of starting to decorate a home bar. Placing a rug in your bar’s flooring is a good way to start here. As much as possible choose the kind that has high absorbency for stains to handle spilt drinks or food stains. You can also add a personal refrigerator in your bar for easy access to some cold soda or beers for a small sudden gathering with friends, or some fruit juice and chocolates for the kids. Proper lighting will also play a role in making sure you have a welcoming and friendly home bar. You can either go for a dim-lit look or bright-lit ambiance. Either way is a personal choice. Wall colors and wall art decors should also give the right coordination depending on the theme you want to emphasize. You can go for some country look or a more contemporary design. See, there are many ways to decorate a home bar. You just have to choose the right ones that you feel will work well with the mood you want to achieve.

Bring the Tuscan look in Your Home

Written by mystyle on August 1, 2010 – 8:49 pm -

If this is the first time you’re hearing about the Tuscan look, don’t worry you are not alone. I myself never heard what a Tuscan style looks like until very recently, and seeing how it can transform a plain simple room into an elegantly simple area is more than enough reason for me to stop wondering whether or not the style will thrive for long when it comes to home decorating.

Indeed, for many years, Tuscan style has made many houses look their very best. A Tuscan décor style uses natural and earthy colors of stone, terra cotta, marble, and wood. It gives a serenely calming ambiance of the home coupled with some modernly styled decors of wrought irons, area rugs, bricks, stones, tiles, etc.

Wrought irons can be in the form of wall decors, candle holders, or chandeliers. Placing any one of them in your home is a signature look of the Tuscan style. You can also grab some area rugs for your living room, kitchen, bedrooms, or bathrooms. They will help define the flooring of your Tuscan style. Other accessories that speak of a Tuscan style are available in many department store or home furniture stores, and even in thrift shops, too.
