California Academy of Sciences new building by Renzo Piano
Written by admin on September 29, 2008 – 10:10 am -The recently inaugurated California Academy of Sciences building is a real piece of art, though at first look the top of it looks like some gigantic alien monster with some ugly things on its back… It is truly the next step towards green architecture: it has a rooftop full of undulating mounds of plants, solar panels on the canopy that goes around the building. In the bubble that you can see on the images is a tropical habitat and an aquarium. Water from rain is used to keep the animals fresh, this way they don’t have to use clean, drinkable water. The building consumes very little energy, probably 30% less than required to achieve platinum LEED certification…
